Summer Fruit Tree Pruning at Heronswood
5 February 2015, 10:00 AM to 25 February 2015, 11:30 AM
Did you know that pruning fruit trees in summer has many benefits?
It is the best way to train your espalier and fan trees but it is also the easiest way to maintain your fruit trees at the height and in the shape you need to suit your garden. It makes it easier to net and therefore protect your crops, and it reduces the amount of winter pruning that you need to do.
Most importantly, pruning in summer transfers growth to fruiting spurs to improve fruit production instead of encouraging unproductive water growth!
Tim Sansom, Diggers CEO – Horticulture and Operations – will be conducting this ever-popular workshop. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn first hand exactly how to prune fruit trees correctly and to ask questions one-on-one.
This is an essential skill if you are wanting to train your fruit trees to maximise garden space, or if you are keen to get the most productive trees in the neighbourhood!
Fruit trees can successfully be kept to a manageable size, by pruning during summer. Learn about the different habits of fruiting and ornamental plants to discover the best time to prune.
Members $29, non-members $39
